The Stechkin APS is a large machine pistol introduced in 1951. It fires the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge from a 20 round magazine. It is select-fire with a cyclic rate of fire of 750 rpm. The APS is issued with a large bakelite detachable stock that doubles as a holster.
The APB is a modified variant of the APS that was introduced about 2 decades later. The APB wasn't produced new, but was created from refurbished APS pistol. The APB has a longer barrel that is threaded to accept a suppressor. The cumbersome and fragile bakelite stock is replaced by a metal wire stock.
