The MR-73 is a revolver of French origin. It was developed in close relation with the French national police. The MR-73 is one of the few new revolver designs that proved succesful in an age where pistols have become the standard type of handgun. The MR-73 is known for its ruggedness and match grade accuracy.
The MR-73 is a double action revolver of conventional design. Unique features include the adjustable trigger in both single and double action mode and chamber capable of withstanding twice the maximum pressure of the .357 Magnum round. Unique versions of the MR-73 include models with very long barrels, optics and bipod for use as a close range sniper rifle.
The MR-73 is chambered for .357 Magnum. This allows it to also fire the lower power .38 Special round. The cylinder has a six round capacity and speedloaders are commonly used. A replacement cylinder for use with 9x19mm Parabellum rounds is available. The high build quality, cold hammered barrel and adjustable roller bearing trigger allow for match grade accuracy.
The MR-73 was extensively used by French law enforcement and special units. It has been supplemented by various pistols but remains in use. The MR-73 was widely exported to nation with close ties to France, including many former colonies.
